So far I have completed 50 posts in this blog starting from May 2013 till October. Most of the posts are about homeopathic medicines which are used by me or by my family members.

I have shared my experiences with you about those medicines with its usages and descriptions of the remedies with connected symptoms. IODIUM (IODINE) - A very good Disinfectant and for treating skin problems

We have seen the properties and usage of HEPAR SULPH, which can be used for treatment of Vertigo, Arthritis and others.

Now we will read about IODIUM. It can also be called iodine.

IODIUM is prepared with very cautiously by liquidating iodate salts in alcohol. Subsequently this solution is again diluted continuously and stirred well till to achieve the desired levels of dilution.

This remedy is an ideal agent to clean the wounds and keep them disinfected. So it can be used for skin infections.

IODINE can also be used to cure the patients with any of following symptoms

Heart feels squeezed, Feeling painful compression around heart (ANGINA PECTORIS). Palpitations even from least exertion. Heart feels as if squeezed by an iron hand followed by great weakness. It is very well useful to treat disorders of heart and blood vessels.

Vertigo and fainting - Worse immediately after rising from seat or from bed or even after slight exercise.

In the case of ABDOMEN it can be used to cure enlarged liver and also for enlarged spleen.

The other indications are:

• Patient may feel hungry with much thirst and feeling better after taken food.
• Loose mouth gums with bleeding and 
• Thyroid enlargement.

It will work with 6th to 30^th potency.

Dosage: For adults it is 4…4….4 and for children 2…2..2.

This remedy is an excellent DISINFECTANT. For external use take four pills and dissolve in one oz. of water and can be used to clean the wounds or infected parts of the body.

HEPAR SULPHURIS CALCAREUM (Hepar Sulph) for vertigo, stomach disorders, Arthritis and others

We had seen about DULCAMARA which is an effective medicine for Rheumatic pain and skin problems in my previous post. If not, please check it out.

Now we will discuss about another medicine called HEPAR SULPHURIS CALCAREUM. This is normally called HEPAR SULPH in short.

This medicine is derived very carefully from the fine powder of oyster shell and is mixed with cleaned and dried flowers of SULFER (“Flowers of Sulfer are not flowers, but a yellow power that is obtained from natural deposits of a mineral, which look like tiny flowers under a microscope. This is a natural product.  Sulphur and Sulfer are same as per etymology – Check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sulfur#Spelling_and_etymology). The mixture is then heated in a porcelain crucible and left to become cold.  After that the contents (powder) are dissolved in hot hydrochloric acid, mixed with milk or sugar, and then diluted.

It is one of fine remedies for abscesses but it is useful only before the abscess is open.

HEPAR SULPH is generally prescribed for the people who are suffering from cold, coughs, sore throat, abscesses, inflamed cuts and wounds.

This can also be used to cure arthritis, constipation, sinusitis, and skin infections.

This remedy is also used to cure nails of the great toe when painful even on slight pressure and also for swollen finger and joints.

HEPAR SULPH has a positive effect on such skin problems like eczema, boils and herpes.

Some of the other physical symptoms for which Hepar Sulph can be used are:

• The patient cannot bear to be uncovered and gets coughs when any part of his body is uncovered
• Stomach disorders and Glandular swelling,
• The patient may be feeling very anguish in mind, in the evening and night with thoughts of suicide, may be feeling very dejected and sad.
• Suffering from Vertigo and headache while shaking head or on riding etc.,
• Urinary symptoms like weakness of the bladder, and feeling some urine is always remaining in the bladder. It is a remedy for old men who are suffering from bladder diseases.

Dosage: This medicine is effective from 3^rd to 200^th potency and the dosage is as usual  4…4…4 for adults and for children 2…2…2

DULCAMARA (BITTER SWEET) for Rheumatic pain and skin problems

In our Previous post, we read about the medicine CONIUM (from Hemlock) which can be used to treat a few types of cancers and also prostate related problems. In this post we will discuss about DULCAMARA, mainly used in case of Rheumatic pains.

Dulcamara is mainly used to treat the rheumatic problems connected with damp cold weather which is aggravated in every change of cold weather and getting relieved when moving around.

In the case of urinary problems, it can help cure the feeling of urgency to pass urine on getting chill in feet. That is when standing or touching with bare feet on chilly (cold) places.

This medicine can also be used to cure stiffness in neck and shoulders due to cold weather (cervical spondylosis), paralysis, paralyzed limbs and feet due to cold.

In the case of skin, it can cure bleeding, ulcers, little boils, red spots, bleeding when scratched, and also eczema. Added to its credit DULCAMARA can cure number of skin disorders like ring worm and itchy skin etc.,

In the case of throat it works well on aching throat, bronchitis, headache with feeling of heaviness, pain caused by sinusitis

Diarrhea and nausea can also be treated with this medicine.

Let us see how this DULCAMARA is prepared. It is prepared by using the fresh green leaves and stems of the bittersweet plant which is also known as bitter night shade.

Dosage: This medicine can work well with 3^rd to 30^th potency. Dosage for Adults is 4…4…4 and for children it isa 2…2…2

CONIUM MACULATIUM (POISON HEMLOCK) – Medicine to treat Cancers, Prostate problems

In our two previous posts we have seen the functions and properties of CANTHARIS, a good medicine for urinary problems and CHAMOMILLA, and an effective pain killer. In this post we will find the properties of CONIUM.

CONIUM is prepared by using the fresh flowers of HEMLOCK plants along with their roots. You can find nice picture of hemlock flowers here -

While preparing the Conium medicine, Subsequently the herb is crushed and macerated in alcohol and being diluted.   

Interesting note – In Ancient Greece, Hemlock flowers were used to prepare poison for prisoners. The famous Philosopher Socrates is supposed to have been killed by a potion containing Hemlock

It is a very special remedy for treating glandular enlargements, cancerous tumours like breast cancer and other cancers like prostate tumour. Conium is prescribed for men who are suffering from enlarged prostate and prostate cancer and also to treat the patients who are suffering from urinary problems such as pain and difficulty in passing urine, also when the flow of urine is intermittent.

It is one of the fine remedies for prostate enlargement who experience hard and heavy prostate.

The other physical indications to use conium are

• Flow of urine suddenly stops and continues again after a short interruption
• Vertigo particularly when lying down or turning over in bed, and also when turning head sideways.
• Feeling stitches extending from the abdomen to the right side of the chest. And in the case of stomach indication of sores around the root of the tongue, acidity and burning, gastric ulcers etc.,
• This medicine also will help to treat the old age people who suffer from giddiness. And also in the case of old age patients find pain and stiffness while walking.

Yes CONIUM is one of the SPECIAL medicines for treating cancers like breast cancer and prostate cancer etc. So it is one of the cancer remedies in homeopathy.

Dosage: 4…..4…..4 for Adults. It will work with 30^th to 200^th potency.

It is a medicine mainly for treating men who suffer from prostate enlargement, prostate tumour with urinary troubles.

CANTHARIS VESICATORIA (Spanish fly) for urinary problems

In the last post, we discussed about the medicine by name CHAMOMILLA which is a good painkiller. In this post we will see the functions of CANTHARIS which is a noted medicine to cure urinary and bladder problems.

This medicine is obtained from the insect called LYTTA VESICTORIA. The common name for this fly is Spanish fly. Seem a beautiful picture of this in the wikipedia page here. This fly produces a toxic substance called cantharidin which is a strong poisonous one.

This remedy used to treat mainly the inflammation of the urinary bladder caused by infection or irritation. It is also used to cure burns and blisters.

It should be noticed that cantharis patients may be restless and also excitable, may be feeling extremely thirsty with difficulty in swallowing. The patient may be having no appetite and will avoid taking food.

The following are the physical symptoms for which cantharis can be used: Intense urge to urinate and with indication of severe inflammation of urinary system with burning pain associated with urinary track. The patient may be afraid to urinate and also may feel urge for frequent urination.

The other symptoms are loss of appetite, burning feeling in the throat, and thirst without desire to drink.

This remedy can also be used to cure burns, Sunburns, blisters, skin eruptions and insect bites and also eczema etc.

Cantharis is very good remedy to cure the patients who feel burning sensation at the bottom of feet during at night.

It is being prescribed to those suffering from eye inflammation and tongue inflammation and nerve pain (neuralgia)

Please note whenever anyone having infection on urinary system and complaints with kidney and bladder complaints think of this cantharis.

Dosage:  For adults 4…4…4 and for Children 2…2…2.  It can be used with 6th to 200^th potency. And it can be used for a limited period say for a week or ten days. Then stop for few days, use the same if problem persists.

Warning: Excess dosage of this medicine may cause burning pain in stomach and throat, may also cause feeling of frequent urge to urinate.

CHAMOMILLA - An effective Painkiller

We have seen one of the active remedies called CARBO VEG, in our previous post now we will see the function of CHAMOMILLA

This medicine is prepared from the herb called German Chamomile - One of the annual flowering plants widespread in Europe. You can see a nice picture of this in the wikipedia page here.

To prepare this medicine the entire plant is crushed and then juices are extracted and the collected juices are diluted with alcohol.

This is extremely beneficial to those who are very sensitive to pain and in the case of infants who are suffering from tooth aches and pains.

CHAMOMILLA is also a very effective medicine to get relief from colds, dry coughs, ear pain. This remedy also can be used to cure digestive disorders, especially when suffering from cramping, or pressing stomach pains with digestive problems and vomiting symptoms.

In the case of back, it will work well to cure the insupportable pain in joints and hips, and also stiff of neck muscles.

In my experience, I used this remedy to get relief from leg pain with numbness and other neurological disorders.

One of the main symptoms to use this medicine is, suffering from violent rheumatic pains that drive the patient out of the bed at night and compel the patient to walk around. Burning of soles at night and loss of power in the feet at night with unable to step make steps.

CHAMOMILLA is more or less a painkiller like ACONITE and cab be tried as an alternative to aconite.

Dosage:  Dosage as usual is 4…4…4 in the case of Adults and 2…2…2 in case of children and it will work with 3^rd to 30^th potency
